Astoria
The Apartment:
- 5 minute walk to the M/R at Steinway, 10 minute walk to the N/W at Broadway or at 30th Ave
- Above a pharmacy, computer repair shop, across one of the few parks in the area and close to department stores on Steinway for all your home needs. Tons of great restaurants (Thai, Greek, Egyptian, Lebanese, Mexican, Colombian, the famous Queens Comfort is a block away), bars (Diamond Dogs, The Halsey, Oliver's, etc.), coffee shops (Madame Sou Sou, Gossip Coffee, Kinship Coffee, etc.) and best of all, across the street from a grocery store and a couple blocks away from United Brothers Fruit and Mediterranean Foods. If I miss anything it will be the proximity to amazing food
- People tell me a Citibike station is going up across the street which is great if you're a biker
- 4th floor walkup in one of the few apartment buildings in the area, most are 2/3 story family homes
- 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, the comfiest couch around (instant naps) and a spacious kitchen with all the shared amenities
The Room:
- A bit on the small side (7' x 11') but I'm 6' 2" and it has served me so well this past year and a half!
- Cool in the summer, I didn't need an air conditioner; a $10 fan was perfect; hardwood floors; radiator heat in the winter, stays cozy
- I have a double bed and am able to store a lot of things underneath (happy to leave my things if you need a quick move-in but also more than willing to move my stuff out)
- I believe the previous tenants had a bunch of shelves; there are studs everywhere
The Roommates (2 guys):
- The longest standing roommate is an illustrator who works from home Monday/Tuesday and does graphic design the rest of the week. Even though he's home, he's quiet and stays in his room drawing but will hang out with you in the living room when he takes breaks. He's a fine bowler, rarely uses the kitchen and loves noir and western films
- The guy that moved in at the same time that I did leaves for work super early in the morning and comes back around 5/6. He's super nice, has a shockingly great taste in music and podcasts, loves nutrition, natural remedies and fitness so don't be shocked by all the new roots/teas/seeds/vegetables he brings in
Too good to be true right? Why would I leave?
I actually hate to leave the apartment because it is so convenient and my roommates are awesome but I'm moving to Australia. I've lived in 4/5 different neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn the past few years and have to say that Astoria has all the best qualities of NYC without it's usual madness.
The Process:
You would need to meet me first, see the apartment, meet the other roommates (ideally we'd do this at the same time) and then pass a credit check with the landlady, then you would take over my name on the lease which expires May 31st and you can choose to renew or not.
